The principal author of the Curve Fitting tool is Jason Carson. In the summer of 2006, while Jason was a rising junior at Western Kentucky University, he participated in the Reseach Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Clemson University. During this program, his main effort was in constructing this tool. Co-authors of the tool were Jason's REU advisor Brad Meyer and webnucleo lead developer Jason Brown.
